Meet the HeatSmart/Climate Fund Contractors
HeatSmart Tompkins and the Finger Lakes Climate Fund are working with three regional energy contractors to bring high efficiency heat pumps and water heaters to lower-income households in our area. Susan Newman of Snug Planet, Nick Pryputniewicz of NP Environmental, and Hal Smith of Halco sit down to talk about their new partnership with these nonprofits to bring clean energy to everyone in our community.

I haven’t gone down there yet…just peeked through the access window, but I bought a worklight string like Joe had to light up the place, so I’m ready. Now I can run a network cable down there that I’ve been holding off on doing.
You can’t imagine how this answers a wish I’ve had for thirty years to make the space desirable to enter…clean, bright, dry, and odor-free. I noticed after the first day of work that the house didn’t smell musty.
The new ductwork has made a noticeable improvement in the airflow to the family room, even before a new furnace. Of course I still eagerly await the new equipment next week.

Home Energy Advisor, Jeremy Heise, Goes Solar!
Jeremy has been working for Halco since 2012, helping thousands of customers in the Finger Lakes area make their homes more comfortable & energy efficient. Recently, Jeremy and his wife had their home air sealed, invested in a heat pump water heater, and installed a solar panel array.
‘We were able to put solar panels in our roof and actually have a loan payment that was less than our electric bill’, says Jeremy.
He loves to show his solar system to customers to affirm his own belief in the value of the services provided by Halco.

Tria from Painted Post, NY and her family were spending a lot of money to heat their home during the winter. During the summer, the back rooms in their house were extremely hot and uncomfortable. William S. of Fayetteville, NY discusses his geothermal system installed by Halco. William’s system is fairly complex as it needs to accommodate a nearly 200-year-old home. The system is comprised of 4 heat pumps: one for the adjoining apartment, one for the bottom floor of his home, one for the top floor, and a fourth for the hot water system.
As a Climate Scientist, William has been considering going green for 20 years for two main reasons: (a) he is keenly aware of the importance of getting off fossil fuels and reducing his carbon footprint, and (b) he realizes the potential cost savings.

Solar and Geothermal in Ithaca, NY | Customer Testimonial

Finger Lakes Works With Their Hands 2019
The 14th annual Finger Lakes Works with their Hands event was held at the Rodman Lott & Son Farms in Seneca Falls, New York on October 3rd. Hundreds of students from the Finger Lakes area were able to try their hands at various trades and learn about job opportunities that exist locally.
