Why the All Electric Home Is Coming Back

Why the All Electric Home Is Coming Back

Take a moment to think about your morning routine. You get out of bed and step into a hot shower, and then head to the kitchen to make a quick stovetop omelet—or maybe even pancakes if you’re feeling ambitious. Then you head to your warm and cozy living room to relax with a newspaper before the busy day begins.

If your home is like many here in Upstate New York, you probably rely on natural gas several times just to get the day going. Natural gas might heat the water in your shower, for example, and your kitchen may be equipped with a natural gas stove. Perhaps you have a natural gas heating system, as well.

Natural gas has long been touted as a cleaner alternative to fossil fuels like coal and oil, but is it really the fuel source of the future? As it turns out, an all electric home is the answer to greater energy savings and a smaller carbon footprint.

What Is the All Electric Home?

You probably already understand that owning an electric car can help you save money on fuel costs and minimize your impact on the environment.  Homes that are all electric run on the same concept. All electric homes rely on electricity for all of their energy needs, including heating, air conditioning, water heating, and cooking.

“Why electricity?” you ask. With renewable energy sources like solar generating more and more electricity on the power grid, electricity is becoming cleaner than ever. And it’s only going to become cleaner as solar technology advances.

How Do I Switch to an All Electric Home?

Making the switch to an all electric home is simpler than you might think. Space heating and water heating account for over 80% of household carbon dioxide emissions, so it’s best to start with your HVAC system and water heating system.

Install a Mitsubishi Electric Heat Pump,

A Mitsubishi Electricheat pump provides both heating and cooling, reversing its process depending on your home comfort needs. Rather than burning a fuel source like gas or oil, it runs exclusively on electricity. Heat pumps by Mitsubishi Electric Cooling & Heating are especially energy efficient and can help you lower your annual heating costs.

If you need to replace your furnace or boiler, and you’re also considering air conditioning, now is the perfect time to consider a heat pump!

Switch to a Heat Pump Water Heater

Electric water heaters are notoriously expensive to run, but there is an energy efficient alternative which runs on electricity: aheat pump water heater. Heat pump water heaters use a small air source heat pump located at the top of the tank to heat the water in the tank. They are about twice as efficient as standard electric water heaters.

Convert Natural Gas Appliances

Of course, if you own a natural gas stove, you will also need to switch to an electric stove. This is a great option to consider when it’s time to replace your stove. Many homeowners are hesitant to part with the aesthetics of a natural gas stove but are pleasantly surprised when they try out an electric induction stove.
