These Freeville, NY customers had an old oil boiler in their 1880’s farmhouse that they were interested in getting rid of. With ideas of upgrading to a more energy-efficient and cost-effective system, they attended a HeatSmart Tompkins meeting and decided to have Halco out to provide an estimate on a new heating system. We installed a 6-ton geo system with 3 heat pumps: one for the first floor, one for the second, and one for the hot water. We also installed all new ductwork and encapsulated the stone basement and walk-up attic. The homeowners used to go through about 750 gallons of fuel oil at $3 a gallon at an annual cost of $2,250. The geothermal cost to operate is about $775 a year!
