This Freeville, NY basement was constantly cold and damp, making the space virtually unusable. We installed a Beautiful to Basement insulated foam board wall panel system over the existing block walls, which will provide a vapor barrier, as well as insulation to the area. This system uses 2.5" thick SilverGlo rigid foam boards and are separated with steel studs that are ready for wall finishing. The panels lock together so there is no break in the wall and have channels pre-engineered so electrical wire can be ran down them. We applied 2" of closed-cell spray foam to the rim joists to complete the air sealing and insulation work.
We then removed a portion of the concrete floor to create a trench around the interior perimeter of the basement and installed a WaterGuard drain system. This is used to channel water that seeps in through the block walls, directly to their new SuperSump sump pump. Finally, we replaced their existing hot water heater with a new, energy-efficient heat pump water heater, which uses the ambient hot air around it to heat the water inside.
