Insulation & Air Sealing Case Studies: Crawl Space Spray Foam Insulation in Ithaca, NY Home

Challenge

This Ithaca, NY customer was experiencing excessive heat loss, cold floors over their crawl space and high energy bills!

Solution

After performing a home energy audit, our energy adviser determined that we could resolve most of the customer's concerns with some air sealing and crawl space insulation.  We laid down TerraBlock Insulation on the earthen floor of the crawl space and then installed CleanSpace 20 mil poly liner over it to create a moisture-resistant barrier. 

A 2-inch layer of spray foam insulation was then applied to all of the exterior walls and rim joists to air seal and insulate the crawl space.  Our team was able to tighten up this Ithaca, NY home further, by adding 10" of cellulose attic insulation and air sealed all of the plumbing and electrical penetrations with spray foam insulation.
