What: Press Conference to launch HeatSmart CNY campaign, including announcing installer partners and a statement of support from the City of Syracuse.

Why: Building on the success of local Solarize campaigns, Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board and Alliance for a Green Economy are now kicking off a two-year campaign to modernize heating and cooling systems for residential, commercial, and community buildings by installing air source and ground source (“geothermal”) heat pumps designed for cold climates, as well as heat pump water heaters. Significant incentives are currently available from the federal government and New York State, as well as local utilities. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is supporting eight similar community outreach campaigns across New York State. HeatSmart CNY is one of two to receive additional funding for workforce development and the only campaign to secure funding to help low-to-moderate income households, bringing a total of $500,000 into the local economy.
