Across the Finger Lakes, homeowners deal with water and soil challenges that are unique to this region. Clay-heavy ground, high water tables, seasonal snowmelt, spring rains, and frequent freeze and thaw cycles all influence how water moves across a property. When the ground stays soft, when water pools near the house, or when a basement feels damp no matter the season, the issue often starts outdoors and below the surface.
When it comes to your home, our commitment is to whole-home results. That’s why our general excavation and drainage services are offered as a vital, integrated step within our larger comfort and energy improvement projects. If your situation connects to another service you need, our team is ready to help; excavation is part of that comprehensive solution
Excavation Expertise, Equipment, and Experience
As a locally owned and independently operated company, Halco Home Solutions has spent decades working in the very soils that cause these challenges, as a part of making homes more comfortable, efficient, and sustainable.
Dump Truck Services
In addition to excavation equipment and field expertise, Halco operates its own dump truck fleet to support material delivery and removal across the Finger Lakes. Whether a project requires gravel, crushed stone, topsoil, sand, or other aggregate materials, our team coordinates delivery and placement efficiently and safely. Having in-house dump truck capabilities allows us to control timing, ensure proper base materials are used, and keep projects moving without delays from third-party suppliers. From building stable driveway foundations to installing properly sized gravel beds for French drains and geothermal systems, dependable material transport is a critical part of doing the job right. It’s one more way Halco provides complete, start-to-finish solutions under one roof.
We have the equipment and know-how to provide excavation services for:
Driveways
A durable driveway requires a proper, stable base, which often starts with professional excavation. In the Finger Lakes region, where clay soils and water issues are common, Halco Home Solutions prepares the ground by removing existing materials, ensuring proper grading, and establishing a stable sub-base that will prevent settling, cracking, and drainage issues. This foundational work is crucial for the longevity of any new or replacement driveway.
Geothermal Loop Installation and Integration
Our excavation specialists prep the ground for geothermal loop systems with careful trenching, proper depth and spacing, and soil conditions that support long-term performance. We coordinate closely with our geothermal installers to place horizontal or vertical loops correctly, ensuring the surrounding area drains and compacts as it should. We complete every installation with one of three grade restoration levels, from a rough back fill all the way up to finish grade restoration, which brings your lawn back to the condition it was in before the excavation, including adding topsoil, raking smooth and level, and laying hay and seed or hydroseeding. The result is a clean, reliable installation that supports efficient heating and cooling for years to come.
French Drains
This is one of the most reliable ways to move groundwater away from the base of your foundation. Halco installs properly sized gravel beds and perforated piping that redirect water to safer locations on the property. This is especially useful in clay-heavy soils where water does not drain quickly on its own.
Swales and Grading Improvements
Sometimes the land needs a controlled route for surface water to follow. A swale is a shallow, grassy channel that guides runoff away from the home. When needed, Halco can also adjust grading so the ground slopes correctly, helping to prevent pooling in low spots and keeping water from migrating toward the foundation.
Downspout Extensions and Runoff Redirection
A large number of foundation moisture issues begin with gutters and downspouts that release water too close to the home. Halco can extend or reroute downspouts so water flows well away from the structure. When appropriate, we can tie these into other drainage solutions for a more complete approach.
Sump Pump Tie Ins
If a sump pump struggles to keep up with water levels, tying it into an exterior drainage system can help. Halco installs connections that allow water to travel away from the home through underground piping, easing the load on the pump and helping to reduce moisture inside the basement.
Trenching for Mechanical or Utility Work
When a project requires underground piping or conduit, like sump pump discharges or electrical service upgrades, Halco manages the trenching and ground preparation. Our crew understands local soils and can complete this work cleanly and efficiently.
Forestry and Land Clearing
Halco provides professional forestry and land clearing services to prepare properties for new construction, geothermal installations, drainage improvements, and other whole-home projects. Our team safely removes trees, brush, and overgrowth while protecting surrounding areas, creating a clean, stable foundation for the next phase of work.
