| Insulation Type | Key Advantage | Common Applications |
|---|---|---|
| Spray Foam (closed cell) | Insulates and air seals in one step for maximum performance | Rim joists, attic rafters, walls, crawl spaces |
| Cellulose | Dense coverage that fills gaps and reduces air movement | Attic floors, exterior walls |
| Rigid Foam | Durable, moisture-resistant insulation for below-grade areas | Basements, crawl spaces, foundation walls |
| Radiant Barrier | Reflects radiant heat to reduce attic heat gain, especially in warmer areas. | Attics |
Spray Foam Insulation
Spray foam insulation provides both insulation and air sealing in a single application, making it a powerful solution in areas where air leakage is a major concern. It’s commonly used at rim joists, attic rooflines, walls, and crawl spaces.
As one of the largest and most experienced closed cell spray foam installers in the Finger Lakes, Halco has deep expertise using spray foam, where it delivers the most value.
Learn More about Spray Foam InsulationCellulose Insulation
Cellulose insulation is made from recycled paper fibers and is installed by blowing or dense-packing it into place. It packs tightly into cavities, helping reduce air movement and heat loss more effectively than many traditional materials.
For finished exterior walls, Halco accesses wall cavities from the outside by temporarily removing siding or shingles and drilling small access holes. Dense-packed cellulose is then blown into the cavity to fill the space and reduce air leaks. Once complete, the openings are sealed, and the exterior is carefully restored, leaving your home looking the same, but performing better.
Rigid Foam Insulation
Rigid foam insulation is commonly used in basements, crawl spaces, and foundation walls, where moisture resistance and durability matter most. Unlike fiberglass, rigid foam does not absorb water, sag, or lose effectiveness over time. When we do find rigid foam insulation to be the right material for the job, we trust Foamax for a clean, white semi-finished look.
Radiant Barrier Insulation
Radiant barriers are designed to reflect radiant heat, helping reduce attic heat gain during warmer months. They are most often installed as part of a broader attic insulation strategy and evaluated alongside air sealing and insulation improvements.
Radiant barrier materials are commonly installed as reflective foil sheets along your attic rafters. In some cases, rigid foam insulation panels include a reflective foil facing that serves a similar purpose.
Choosing the Right Insulation for Your Home? Yep, We Do That!
At Halco Home Solutions, insulation is never treated as a one-product decision. Homes often use multiple insulation types in different areas, such as attics, walls, basements, crawl spaces, and floors, each chosen for performance, durability, and long-term results.
Because Halco also provides HVAC, ventilation, electrical, and plumbing services in-house, insulation upgrades are coordinated with the rest of your home systems.

Insulation Material FAQs
In many cases, yes. If existing insulation is dry and in good condition, Halco can air seal first and then add insulation on top to improve performance. If insulation is wet, damaged, or contaminated, it may need to be removed and replaced to ensure long-term results.
A home energy assessment is often the best place to start. During your assessment, Halco evaluates insulation levels, air leakage, and how different areas of your home work together. This helps ensure insulation upgrades are targeted, effective, and part of a whole-home solution.
