Steve S, the technician who assisted me with my furnace issue, was very thorough and tactful,  pointing out to me that I had caused the problem of my furnace not responding to my thermometer settings by covering the perimeter of the programmable thermostat with masking tape while painting the surrounding wall.  He also suggested a visit by a Halco plumber to address issues I am having with inadequate hot water pressure in my bathroom sink and shower.  I'm expecting the plumber today.
