Enjoy the benefits of an efficient, clean-burning furnace

New furnace installed in Ithaca

Plastic pipes indicate high efficiency. This new furnace extracts nearly all the heat from its fuel. Exhaust gases are cool enough to travel outside through a plastic pipe. Combustion air is also supplied from outdoors through a plastic pipe.

Is it time for a new furnace? Furnace replacement will be necessary if a major problem develops - such as a cracked heat exchanger.

Halco is your local expert for heating system replacement. Before we replace your existing furnace, we will thoroughly inspect your heating system. If you require a new furnace, we can install a heating system that's right for you.

An older furnace can perform perfectly & poorly - at the same time!

Many homeowners ask: "Why should I replace my furnace if it's working perfectly?" That's a good question. The trouble with an older furnace is that even in peak condition, it may only be working at 75% efficiency. In other words, 25% of the fuel you're paying for is wasted, because it's not being converted to heat for your living space.

To find out if a new furnace installation is the right option for your home, contact the experts at Halco. We provide free furnace inspections, Free Estimates for new furnaces, and expert furnace installation and furnace replacement. Because we have access to the best HVAC equipment, we'll make sure to find a right-sized furnace that matches your home's heating requirements and your budget. We can expertly install an oil, gas, or electric furnace in your home.

Things to consider when choosing a furnace

  • Natural gas, propane & oil are the most common furnace fuels, but wood and pellet-burning furnaces are also available. Multi-fuel furnaces can typically burn two types of fuel.
  • Furnace size is usually given in BTU output, a measure of heating capacity.
  • Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) denotes furnace efficiency. A 10-year-old furnace will probably operate below 80% AFUE. New high-efficiency furnaces can operate at 95% AFUE or higher.
  • A sealed combustion furnace, also known as a high-efficiency furnace, requires no chimney and no indoor air for combustion. Instead, outside air is brought in through a small pipe to provide oxygen for combustion. A small fan blows flue gases outside through a plastic pipe. A sealed combustion furnace is more suitable for a tight, well-insulated house.

Make sure your furnace keeps performing like it should

The hot air produced by your furnace is distributed throughout your living space by a ductwork system. Even a super efficient furnace can't overcome the problems caused by ducts that are leaky or cold. Leaky ducts can diminish furnace efficiency by 20% or more. It's important to seal your ductwork system (which isn't typically done when the ductwork is installed), and insulate ducts in cold areas (attics, basements, crawl spaces). These affordable improvements ensure that warm air from your furnace gets where it belongs.

To keep your furnace running as efficiently as possible, and to prevent expensive problems, you should also make sure to replace the filter and have your furnace inspected and serviced annually.
