Radon Testing & Mitigation The Finger Lakes, NY

Radon system installation in Rochester, Ithaca, Syracuse, & nearby

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), nearly 1 out of every 15 homes in the U.S. are estimated to have elevated radon levels. You can't see, taste, or even smell radon, which means it is virtually undetectable without testing your home.

Radon is a radioactive gas that is formed by the natural breakdown of uranium, which is found in nearly all soils and rock. Radon is also a known carcinogen and can pose serious health risks to you and your family. The only way to be sure your home is radon free is through careful testing. If high levels of the cancer-causing gas are found, we can install a reliable radon mitigation system.

As your local radon experts, Halco can ensure that your home is protected. Call us today to get a radon mitigation quote in Rochester, Ithaca, Syracuse, Lansing, Webster, and the nearby areas in New York.

What you should know:

According to the EPA, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States and is responsible for thousands of deaths each year.

Any home can have a radon problem

All homes, regardless of their location, can have a radon problem. This means new and old homes, well-sealed and drafty homes, and homes with or without basements. Here are some frequently asked questions about radon:

How does radon get into your home?

Radon moves up through the ground and makes its way into your home through cracks and holes in the foundation, construction joints, cracks in walls, gaps around service pipes, gaps in suspended floors, and cavities inside walls. In some cases, radon can even enter the home through well water. Your home traps radon inside where it can build up over time.

Does my home need radon testing?

Absolutely, let Halco's energy efficiency team test your home - it's the only way to truly know if you and your family are at risk. It's inexpensive and it's easy. If you plan to air seal and insulate your home for comfort and energy efficiency, now would be the best time to test your home's radon levels, as these home improvements will lessen the ability of radon to escape your home.

What is the next step if you DO have a radon problem?

Radon levels are measured in picocuries per liter of air, or "pCi/L." If levels are greater than 4, the EPA recommends installing a mitigation system. Radon mitigation systems can reduce the levels of radon in your home by up to 99%. Even very high levels can be reduced to acceptable levels with a proper mitigation system.

Most mitigation systems consist of a PVC pipe connected to a specially designed fan that is vented out of your home through the roof.
