This Auburn, NY customer just moved into his house and was running through propane. His floors were always hot, and his high efficient boiler never turned off. Our service technician found a crossed wire on the zone control board that ran out to the customer’s pull barn where his open system coal fired boiler sits. This was turned off, but the crossed wires made a call for heat. Our tech removed the system from the main boiler system, cooling down the room directly above it 8°F while he worked. He also identified a failed expansion tank, a failed air vent, and a missing a back-flow preventer and an automatic water feed/ pressure reducing valve. He replaced the failed parts and installed the two missing parts making the boiler system code compliant. The customer was so happy with the service he decided to become a Halco Maintenance Agreement customer!
This Auburn, NY customer's pressure tank was waterlogged which made his well pump turn on every time he turned a faucet on. As this would eventually burn the pump out, we replaced the pressure tank and updated the piping.
This 1930's, cast-iron steam boiler had been running so inefficiently that these Genoa, NY homeowners were forced to use 4 additional space heaters just to maintain an adequate level of comfort throughout their 1900 sq. ft. house during the winter. We took out the boiler and the existing fuel oil tank and replaced it with this new Williamson high-efficiency, LP gas-fired steam boiler. By combining this with several insulation and air-sealing measures that we performed throughout the home, they no longer have to worry about relying on multiple space heaters to be comfortable in the winter time. But more importantly, they are expected to see a savings of around 30% on their energy bills!
This customer had just moved into their home about a year ago and immediately began to feel the discomfort of extreme draftiness... and the subsequent high energy bills. Our Energy Adviser performed an audit on the home and found that the primary issue was a lack of attic insulation in this Weedsport, NY home. To solve this, we applied 6" of open-cell spray foam insulation all along the attic slopes. The results were staggering! Our initial blower door reading, prior to the work, with the attic door open was 6200 CFM50. Afterwards, it tested out at 3000 CFM50 with the attic door AND the basement door open--that's an efficiency increase of over 50%!
